Often known by its Latin name, Rorate cæli, the text for this piece is from the Entrance Antiphon for the 4th Sunday of Advent, the last Sunday before Christmas. I love the atmosphere of the text: the sense of calm before the big event, the anticipation of the Incarnation reflected through natural phenomena.
Knowing the great potential of this text, it took me a long time to come up with a way to set it to music. All told, the piece took me over five years to write.
This setting uses my own English translation of the text. To me, the music evokes mist rolling over the hills just before sunrise.

Heavens, give dew from above:
Let the clouds rain Justice Himself.
